On Monday I heard about a new job opportunity. On Wednesday I had my first interview, on Thursday I had my second interview and was offered the job. On Friday, I gave my two week notice to my current boss. I've been in the same job and with the same boss for over 17 years. On March 3, 2008, not only will I start employment with a new firm and a new boss, but will also start a new path in my career. After all this time of doing plaintiff's work, I will begin working in defense. I am totally psyched and ready for the challenge. It will feel a little wierd to be the new girl on the block though. I have been ready for a change for a while now and well, this was all like a sign from Heaven above.

Last Sunday I spent time with my godchildren. My god-daughter has an AVM on her brainstem. She has been dealing with this for the past almost 2 years now. She is 13 yrs. old, marvelously smart, kind, caring and beautiful. She's been dealt a totally unfair set back from gamma knife surgery which has made her brain swell and taken away her coordination, ability to speak clearly, her eyelids are swollen shut and the steroids she has to take has swollen her face to the point she is almost unrecognizable. She has been out of school since before Christmas and misses the stimulation of learning and the companionship of her friends. I wrote to a doctor at Johns Hopkins last week only to be told that what she is going through is normal following gamma knife surgery, but if I sent her films they'd take a look at them. How incredibly caring and kind of them. Tell me, how can any of what she is going through be considered normal for a 13 year old or anyone for that matter?!

My mother had her sixth and final treatment in this round of her bladder cancer protocol last Tuesday. She's like a new woman...for the time being any way. She'll have to have a cystoscopy in May for the doctor to see if the tumors are growing back. With the type of cancer she has, this is a possibility. In the meantime, she can breath a bit though.

Just found out yesterday that all my aunts and their husbands will be able to join us in Las Vegas in May for my parents 50th anniversary! It will be a miracle if we can all keep this a secret until then. The "sister network" is always very busy and there is not much that is kept quiet among them. ;)

I finished Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men the other night. Now that was a great read. Chigurh, the bad guy, may be the most inheritently evil man I've ever read about. He is totally void of emotion and functions like a machine with one purpose. Llewellyn Moss may be the most tragic man I've ever read about, since he is Chigurh's purpose. What tragedy dirty money brings about in this book, is too close to what is really going on in the real world with drugs, murder and mayhem. I haven't seen the movie and now don't know if I really want to. The book was wonderful though and I'd highly recommend it.

What Goes Down Must Go Up!

After a rather stressful week so far, good news came today in the form of a telephone call that involved NO's! NO INFECTIONS and NO BLADDER CANCER!!!! CJ, my sister... this day has been a long time coming! I just have to yell a heartfelt HALLELUJAH and whoop a loud WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!

Yesterday we buried a family member. She turned 90 years old just a few weeks ago and I had the pleasure of joining her for her birthday. She was worn and drawn and shrunk down to almost a skeleton. I have to honestly say that she looked wonderful yesterday. No stress. No pain. Just peaceful. My heart aches for her son, his wife and their children, but they all realize that her pain is at an end and she truly is in a better place.

Forced my DS to leave the funeral going on's and go to a doctor yesterday. He has pneumonia! He works so many long hours every week, doesn't take care of himself and never gets enough rest. I'm just thankful he listened to me and got things taken care of. He's not happy about being out of work, but work will be there. His health is the priority. It's terrible though. He's 25 and I still want to be able to baby him and take care of him when he's sick. So far he hasn't let me though. ;)

Finished a fun trashy romance last night. The Wizard's Daughter by Catherine Coulter. After the last two books I read, I needed something light and okay, was hoping for a little well described sex. Don't ever believe a woman who tells you she loves to read trashy romance but doesn't like the sex scenes. ;) LOL! Wizard's Daughter is part of the Sherbrooke series by Coulter. I've read a few of them, but not all. In this chapter of the family Sherbrooke, Ryder has saved a little girl who was found almost beaten to death and eventually adopts her as her ward. Rosalind has no memory before her beating and details slowly unfold when she is 18 and falls head over heels in love. Rosalind/Isabella and Nicholas/Egan are the main characters who fall in love and go on a journey into the mystical world of the Pale. Yes, love, marriage, sex (but not enough of it! LOL), a strange book, ghosts, witches, wizards and feuding family members make Wizard's Daughter a light, fun, quick read. Just what I needed. :)

Tonight is Lost! Tomorrow is Friday and the last day in my week from Hell hopefully. My boss has some surgery and has been out all week, so I get to do both his job and my own. It's really fun! NOT!! Anyways, I've almost made it and I'm still in one piece. :)

Voting History and Geraldine Brooks

I took part in history today. I walked into a voting booth and cast my vote for a woman presidential candidate. No matter what happens with the future outcome of this election, history has been made merely by the presence of the Democractic candidates. For the first time, in a long time, I have hope for my country and I am terribly excited about the future.

Now let's talk books a bit. I just finished Nine Parts of Desire by Geraldine Brooks. This is the second of Ms. Brooks books that have crossed my path and she has quickly become a favorite author. I have several other books of hers on order at the present. Nine Parts is the story of Muslim women. Ms. Brooks puts forth the stories of the liberal Muslim women and what they are fighting for, to the traditional Muslim women that accept the ties that bind them. Imagine, in some Muslim countries today I could not have voted. Not having that right is foreign to me. Of course not dressing the way I want, or thinking the way I want, or driving where I want are also foreign concepts to me. But the strength of the Muslim women interviewed for the book are as universal as words and numbers. Different lands, different tongues, different religions, but a woman's strength is the same the world over. Some of the cruel traditions endured by Muslim women would be unimagineable to an American woman. Would you stand up for having your clitoris removed by a dull knife in unsanitary conditions? Would you stand for your husband beating you and it is he that is looked upon as the victim because you forced him to beat you? Yet, Ms. Brooks also brings to light some wonderful things about the teachings of the Koran and many positive occurrences in traditionally Muslim countries. In ways, Muslim women are protected and extended power in areas that maybe "we" take for granted. They say the meek (not that I think women of any religion or race are meek) shall inherit the earth and maybe it will be a Muslim woman that will lead the way.

Are You Wearing Red Today?

My paternal grandmother died from it. My mother has it. My favorite cousin's mother-in-law has it. What is "it"? Heart disease.

“Many American women remain unaware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer, even though more than 42 million American women are living with one or more types of cardiovascular disease,” said Nieca Goldberg, M.D., Go Red For Women spokesperson, author and medical director of the New York University Women’s Heart Program. “According to the most recent data, cardiovascular disease caused approximately one death per minute among females. That is why the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement seeks to build awareness of this deadly disease and challenge women to take action to reduce their personal risk.”

"Alarming heart health statistics include:

• One in three women has some form of cardiovascular disease.
• Cardiovascular disease kills approximately 460,000 women per year.
• More women die of cardiovascular disease than the next five causes of death combined, including cancer."

So yes, I'm wearing my red today. Odds are not in my favor for avoiding heart disease. It runs both on my maternal and paternal sides. I'm doing my best to avoid it though. I watch what I eat. I try to be active. I'm battling the bulge. And I quite smoking. So what woman in your life has heart disease? Which woman in your life is ignoring that they have it?

Please wear your red proudly and visit Go Red For Women for information and ways to decrease your own risk of heart disease.

Lost!!!

Yup today is Lost day. Lost returns to t.v., I lost the english in my blog and my whole blog for a while, I lost a $5 bill, a client's phone number, oh yeah, and my mind too I think. Too bad I didn't get lost on the way to work. LOL

Now I have to figure out how to get everything back on my blog that I had before like links to my friends' places, favorite websites, etc. No time to finish today though. :( All my efforts have been aimed at trying to pretty this place up a bit, make it my own and then maybe I'll actually tell a few more people about it. LOL CV accused me recently of keeping secrets and I gave her the link. My favorite cousin turned 30 and her hubby hosted a surprise party for her. There were about 50 friends and family members at a friendly Italian restaurant and fun was had by all. Well, T's hubby surprised her alright, but they also had a huge surprise for all the guests. They announced they are gonna have a bambino this summer! Woo Hoo!!! I helped a bit by making Tressa's birthday cake and got a job offer from the restaurant out of it. LOL If I didn't have so much trouble with my right arm, I might have considered it. It's kind of been a dream of mine, but with the way things are right now, I just can't do it. But it sure was a boost to my ego! Here's the cake:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/R59N7EbB0kI/AAAAAAAAADs/MgHhKWdxPV4/s400/tressacake.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5160929375184605762" />

I've been asked how many books I read. Well, it depends on how much time I get. I try to finish at least one a week, which in the scheme of things isn't very many, or maybe it's a lot to some. I read EVERY day. It helps me relax before going to sleep, of course it also keeps me up sometimes if it's a really good book and I can't put it down. LOL

I finished People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks last night. It is about the Sarajevo Haggadah, which truly exists, and a fictionalized accounting of its journey from the 1600's to the present day. Ms. Brooks words take you into time and places that can easily be imagined. Her descriptions of the people who could have been involved in the making of this Haggadah are brilliant in their clarity.Her research brings reality to the way books and paintings were done in the past and how hard it is to recreate those techniques now. This book taught me more about the Jewish and Muslim religions than I've ever known before. This book made ME go and do more research. This is exactly the kind of book I like, one that makes me think and want more.

I wonder...

If there were either no religion, or only one religion, would there not be any war? I thoroughly enjoyed this book about star crossed lovers with a bit of a twist. I am an admitted word skipper, but the lushness of McEwan’s words could just not be skipped over. The way Briony’s 13 year old mind is described, the way the family home is described, the way Robbie’s military journey is described, each and every word in the description begs to be savored. A 13 year old’s imaginative mind is a dangerous thing to begin with. Add to that a secretively seen encounter between her older sister and the housekeeper’s son, with her sister ending up practically naked and the misunderstanding caused by stumbling upon a passionate embrace in the library and well, all hell is just waiting to break loose! But wait! Even more misconceptions are about to bombard Briony’s overworked imagination. Bruises on her cousin, Lola, her little cousins running away, Lola found crying, a mysterious man seen walking away… Every little observation, each misconstrued scenario, leads Briony to a terrible conclusion and an innocent man is made to pay.

The very last chapter in the book written by Briony as a woman in her 70’s, confirm suspicions you might have developed along the way. As much as you want to believe Cee and Robbie managed to live happily ever after there are a couple clues given as to their true fates.

Does Briony keep her promise? Does she make amends for the crime she committed against an innocent man? You’ll have to read Atonement to find out.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy

The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I stumbled across this book and I'm glad I did. Living in a post apocalyptic world, a father struggles to keep his son and hope, alive by traveling along the Road.

The world has been ravaged by fires and is covered in gray ash. Temperatures continue to drop and even the snow and ice is gray in color. Those with savage hearts have turned into savages. Those with good hearts struggle to maintain their goodness. The father and son struggle along the road in an attempt to reach the coast and warmer temperatures. They struggle to find safe places to sleep. They forage for food in the rafters of abandoned smoke houses and the shells of what were once homes. They stumble onto a storm cellar stoked to the brim in canned goods, fresh water and a clean and warm place to sleep, but they are not safe even there. They continue along the road and in a world where the site of a child is a rare thing. They hide from other travelers upon the road because you can’t trust anyone in this new world. This is a world where you see a pregnant woman traveling in the company of several men and the next morning you find their camp with the beheaded, charred remains of that pregnant woman’s infant. Yes, in this world children, the innocent, have become food.

I don’t want to give away more, but I highly recommend this book. It is a quick, intense, thought provoking read. Think about it. To what lengths would you travel, to what harshness would you endure, how much danger would you willingly step into the path of, in order to protect your child?

Just What the Doctor Ordered

Back from a weekend in NJ with CV and H in their lovely home. I'm still not sure how I feel about this book. It won several European awards, however I'm wondering if it lost something in the English translation? I almost felt like I was spying on Trond's (the main character) innermost thoughts. He's a likeable guy, but he never completely finishes his train of thought and I was left going huh? at the end of the book.

After the death of his wife in a horrendous automobile accident Trond longs for isolation and moves into a remote cabin in the woods. He spends his days making repairs and improvements to the cabin in readiness for winter and his impending death. He meets his one neighbor while out walking his faithful pooch at night and is thunderstruck by the familiarity of the other man. It is Lars, the younger brother of a lost childhood friend. He returns to his cabin and the memories overtake him. he doesn’t know whether to recognize Lars or to hide from him in hopes Lars didn’t recognize him return. He remembers that Lars shot his own twin brother and how it happened. He remembers…

All the memories that are dredged up, revolve around the summer of Trond’s 15th year. This is the summer he treasures. This is the summer he hates. It is the summer he spends out in the woods in a comfortable little cabin with his father. It also turns out to be the last time he will ever see his father. It is a summer filled with learning and secrets. He is discovering himself and what he’s made of. He explores the depth of his relationship with a father that is away from home a good deal of the time under mysterious circumstances. He learns the logging trade when his father decides to cut down all the trees on the cabin’s property. He discovers desire in the form of a buxom milkmaid. He is told of his father’s secret messenger services during the war. He develops a deep friendship with another young man, only to have the young man disappear after a tragic accident involving the shooting of one of the friend’s younger brothers. He discovers the infidelity of his father with his friend’s mother.

There are several things I want to know WHY about. Why did he never ask Lars what happened to his father? What really did happen to his father? Why are he and his daughter so at odds? What really happened to the money from the logging venture at the summer cabin? Was his father a spy or a messenger? Why does Trond so badly want to be alone?

A New Year - A New Blog

So, here it is... it's more than half way through January of 2008. I've decided to restart my blog. But I've also decided it's going to take a new direction. I'm not going to worry about quantity. I am going to worry about quality. I'm also going to start blogging about one of my biggest passions and if you know anything about me, you may know what it is. Reading. I read every day even if it's only for 15 minutes. I'll still blog about life in general, but I want to broaden my horizons this year and add things into this blog that will let people know who I am and what I like. Another website that I love to play at, http://www.sybermoms.com, pushed me down this new path just from starting a book journal. What paths will you travel this year? Maybe ours will cross. :)

TT #12 - Today In History

In honor of my work husband's 47th birthday, here are 13 things that happened on August 16th!

Today In History

1. I've actually come to dread the month for various and sundry reasons. Anyway, I'm hoping this August will be the beginning of better ones in the years to come.

Dad was found to have two blockages in one main artery. There was a 50% blockage above a 99% blockage. God gave the doctor the patience and skill to work for two hours to get the artery clear enough to get a stent in. If it had taken much longer, bypass would've been the only option. There was a small complication during the procedure in that Dad developed a small blood clot below the stent where the main artery branched off. His heart apparently spasmed during the procedure which produced the clot. They kept him on blood thinners for 18 hours and flat in bed for 24 hours. His doctor informed us that these clots generally resolve on their own, however he had to take the extra precautions and we still have to keep a close eye on Dad the next couple of weeks. He's now on another medication as well - this one to stop the heart from spasming. So all in all, encouraging outcome, yes?

A week from today we'll find out whether Mom's bladder cancer is invasive or not. It's something that is weighing heavily on her mind, on all our minds. I feel strongly that the cancer was caught early and believe that the outcome will be good. I simply can't believe otherwise.

My son and daughter-in-law will be married two years next week! They will be taking a 3 day cruise to celebrate. It's been two years and I still can't believe my baby is grown and married some days. LOL My Goddaughter will be 13 this weekend. Something else I can't believe. How has she become a teenager so quickly? She's a beautiful girl, an extremely intelligent girl and a girl I know can go very far with the right opportunities. Okay - so two more good things for this August, right?

Haven't been breaking many speed limits recently - but sometimes it's okay just to coast. ;)

When It Rains, It Pours

Why is it, that when things start looking good and you start feeling good, some weight is lifted off your shoulders and you think blue skies are ahead, all hell breaks loose?

First it started with my darling little cousin's evil grandma denying our family visits with her. As I've said before she's the light of my life. It kills me not to see her. If it kills me, imagine what it's doing to my aunt and uncle, her grandparents. They are simply besides themselves with anger and grief. They are fighting back though and I'll do anything to help them.

Mom had her surgery last week (bladder repair, etc.) and the surgery itself went spectacularly well. However, while the doctor was in there he found a tumor on her bladder. Said he's seen enough to know it was cancer and he did a biopsy. There was also another place on her vulva that he excised and sent for biopsy, but he was fairly confident it was not cancer. Well the results came back today and the doc was right on both counts. Surgery to excise the tumor on her bladder has already been scheduled for 8/21. If mom hadn't had the other surgery though, we most likely wouldn't have known about the bladder cancer for a year or more and by then it might've been too late. God works in mysterious ways and he made sure the tumor was found. I believe that and am very grateful. Right now, everyone is very optomistic and with God watching out for her, all WILL be okay. Still, you hear that word, CANCER, and your whole world just turns upside down. I was expecting the biopsy to confirm the cancer and still I just wanted to fall apart. I was with my mother when the doctor told her the possibility existed last week and I have never seen a human being physically deflate before. It was like her very existence slipped out with her breath. I wanted to immediately run home when she called to tell me today, but I knew if I did she'd be even more worried. She's already afraid we're not telling her everything.

Earlier in the year spots were found in my Dad's lungs and those are being followed by regular CT scans. He had already been diagnosed with emphysema and chronic bronchitis and went through the tests to see if he was a lung reduction candidate, which is when they discoverd the spots on his lungs. The emphysema is too far spread to do a lung reduction and the procedure they'd have to do to get a biopsy is too dangerous given the condition of his lungs and heart and where the spots are located. Now, to top things off, my dad is going into the hospital for another cardiac catheterization on 8/9 (the last was after his heart attack of February 06). He's had some very scary "episodes" over the past couple of months and his last test results were not the best. Doc is afraid there is at least one, or maybe two 100% blockages. If this is the case, Dad might not be coming home on Thursday, he may be taken in for bypass surgery instead. Say a prayer or two that the problem is found and that even if he has to have a bypass that it will help him. Right now Dad is more worried about Mom and Mom is more worried about Dad. I'm stuck in the middle and quite frankly feel like a ping pong ball. ;)

I've also just found out my friend Penny is going through a rough time right now too. Please keep her, her dad and her whole family in your prayers. Drop her a note at her blog (link is under Pen's place to the side here) and let her know you're thinking of her.

The next few weeks may be rough ones.

TT #11 - Strength

Thirteen Definitions of Strength

~ Strength ~
Pronunciation: 'stre[ng](k)th, 'stren(t)th
Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural strengths/'stre[ng](k)ths, 'stren(t)ths, 'stre[ng]ks/
Etymology: Middle English strengthe, from Old English strengthu; akin to Old High German strengi strong -- more at
1: the quality or state of being strong : capacity for exertion or endurance
2:   power to resist force
3:   power of resisting attack
4: a: legal, logical, or moral force b: a strong attribute or inherent asset <the
strengths and the weaknesses of the book are evident>
5: a: degree of potency of effect or of concentration <chili peppers in varying
strengths> b: intensity of light, color, sound, or odor c: vigor of expression
6: force as measured in numbers : effective numbers of any body or organization
<an army at full strength>
7: one regarded as embodying or affording force or firmness : support <you are my
love and my strength>
8: maintenance of or a rising tendency in a price level : firmness of prices <the
strength of the dollar>
9: basis - used in the phrase on the strength of synonym see power
10:  A doctor’s words of encouragement.
11: Being unafraid to voice your fears.
12:  My mom.

Links to other Thursday Thirteens!

1. In coming up with a TT for this week, I started wondering about some of the strange laws that are still on the books. So, here are 13 strange laws still on the books in Delaware.

Thirteen Strange Delaware Laws

1. Alcohol may not be served in nightclubs if dancing is occurring on the
premises at the same time;
2. No person shall pretend to sleep on a bench on the boardwalk.
3. One may not whisper in church.
4. Getting married on a dare is grounds for an annulment.
5. It is illegal to wear pants that are "firm fitting" around the waist.
6. Six-year-old girls may not run around without being fully clothed.
7. It is illegal to fly over any body of water, unless one is carrying
sufficient supplies of food and drink.
8. In Delaware, it is against the law for a newlywed husband to go fishing
during the honeymoon. He must take her shopping, however, if she requests
it.
9. It is against the law to sneeze in an airplane.
10. It is a violation of local law for any pilot or passenger to carry an ice
cream cone in their pocket while either flying or waiting to board a plane.
11. It is against the law to pawn a wooden leg.
12. Condoms may only be sold by doctors and wholesale druggists.
13. It is illegal for anyone to slurp their onion soup in a restaurant in
Wilmington.

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Personally, I don't care what the date is.... IT'S FRIDAY!!!! Woo Hoo!!! This has been one heck of a week and I can't wait for it to end. So much drama at work and who knows, one very unlucky employee might be biting the dust today. We'll have to wait and see. No, it's not me! LOL First we have to get through an office baby shower and make nice with everyone. That in itself can be a real test of restraint. Oh, the stories I could tell....

Have a busy weekend planned with furniture shopping with my mom. It's like she wants to get the nest ready before her surgery later this month. Also have yard duties to attend to and I hope the weather cooperates. We had a heat wave earlier in the week that made me and my allergies just miserable. Today is quite pleasant and I'm hoping it holds out at least for tomorrow. We need some rain though, badly. The grass is almost all brown and so crispy it crackles if you walk on it. This just kills my dad who is simply nutty about taking care of the lawn. Sometimes you just can't fight Mother Nature.

Today I'm feeling quite light hearted, hopeful and filled with excitement. Funny how words from a friend can do that to you. It is hard enough to put things you are feeling into words, let alone write them down and share those same words with someone else, maybe even a lot of someone else's. Today I am thankful for true courage.

Later gators. Oh, and break a speed limit or two this weekend!

Happy Thursday!

Thirteen Things I Wonder About

1. I did something today that I never thought I'd do and that was order something I saw a celebrity in a celebrity rag wearing. Yes, I really did. I saw this really cool shirt Courtney Cox and David Arquette were wearing and saw it was available at Kitson online. Kitson you say? You are thinking they are way too expensive, or I've never heard of them. LOL Well, my exploration of Kitson turned up the shirt and Google turned up information on Omnipeace and Millenium Promise. OmniPeace gives 50%, yes 50% of their profits from selling shirts and other things to the Millenium Promise - an organization that is trying to end world hunger by 2025. Okay the shirt at Kitson is a little pricey for me, but I ordered one any way http://shopkitson.com/?gclid=CNqpqeP7n40CFRIXZAodZzXq5Q. A slightly different and less pricey version is available at the OmniPeace store - http://omnipeace.webstore.us and yes, I ordered one there too. Anyway - I love this shirt!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RpUMG-mO7TI/AAAAAAAAADk/ZBpb2NcjQ7I/s400/kitson.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085984668206951730" />

It might be a very small step in contributing to ending hunger, but it is a step in the right direction. Just think if everyone who reads the celebrity magazines bought just one shirt how much money that would raise...

Have a great day!

Happy Monday?

Well, so far so good anyway. It's 12:30 and it is a very humid 94 degrees right now. Thank goodness for air conditioning that is working. I'm not looking forward to walking outside later though. It's oppressive. Mom and Dad get back from Houston tonight and I hate that Dad is coming back to this kind of weather. It makes it even more difficult for him to breath. Mom said he'd been doing pretty well with his breathing while in Texas though.

Had a busy weekend running errands, doing laundry, working in the flower beds, weeding, adding mulch, etc. Just not enough hours in a day to get everything done though. I'm feeling the payback from carrying 6 big bags of mulch multiple times in my shoulders and lower back today. Motrin is my friend. ;) Had dinner with B & K on saturday night. It's always a pleasure to spend time with DS, even when he and K bicker. I guess I'll take whatever time I can get and treat it as precious no matter what.

Had a great time at C's with her and her family. I love them all so very much and think of their home as my second home and their family an extension of my own. I am in love forever with A and H. I think of them as my nieces. If I were lucky enough to have nieces of my own, I'd want them to be just like A and H. Better watch out brother F, I'm liable to take you up on your offer of building on an extra room someday. :)

Wanted to share some pics from the Relay for Life. These are a few that C took (still haven't got the few I took on line yet). The weather cooperated and we had a ball. It was a different experience than in years past. No rushing before the cocks crow, no pressure to make pit stops on time - just very laid back. The stadium was beautiful at night when the luminairies were lit. Breathtaking really. I'm very proud of the money C's Crew raised this year and think we made a fine first appearance at the RFL. Anyhoo...here's some pics:

Clowining around - H took this! :)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RpJntumO7LI/AAAAAAAAACk/5XMJNfkxG_0/s400/925612832505_0_ALB.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085240964554878130" />

Me and "my" girls. :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RpJnt-mO7MI/AAAAAAAAACs/LIEhuFG8WPY/s400/989522832505_0_ALB.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085240968849845442" />

SURVIVORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RpJoMemO7NI/AAAAAAAAAC0/WmNgD2rXJ-4/s400/858042832505_0_ALB.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085241492835855570" />

Team Carolynn's Crew
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RpJoM-mO7OI/AAAAAAAAAC8/d4pJFNkgCM4/s400/248342832505_0_ALB.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085241501425790178" />

The week before my trip to C's was my cousin's wedding reception. You might remember that she and her husband were married in Italy in May. The reception was wonderful and of course, Italian themed. She had a really great idea for favors and had bottles of Limoncello shipped home from Italy and presented one to each of the attendees. T of course added her own touches and bang! - perfect favor. I was asked to make the wedding cake. It's the first one (and most likely last one) I've done and admittedly the thought of the task scared me silly. Thank the Good Lord above for blessing us with perfect weather and for the help and support I got from my Aunt J - she kept me calm and helped me set up at the reception hall. Couldn't have done it without her. I think it came out pretty well, so here's a few pics. Tell me what you think.

The cake
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RpJpwemO7PI/AAAAAAAAADE/xigE3LnBbe4/s400/800496510208_0_ALB.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085243210822774002" />

The cake table
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RpJpwumO7QI/AAAAAAAAADM/rOJ8hIUnB1U/s400/818086510208_0_ALB.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085243215117741314" />

Cupcakes
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RpJpxOmO7RI/AAAAAAAAADU/nfNdx4Ac0jQ/s400/351407510208_0_ALB.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085243223707675922" />

The beautiful bride and handsome groom.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RpJpxumO7SI/AAAAAAAAADc/0a9VnPLVnWQ/s400/206796510208_0_ALB.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5085243232297610530" />

I'm about out of time today (lunch time sure flies quickly!). I'm Late!!

Okay, okay…. I’ve been missing in action again. I wanted to check in quickly though. Lots to catch up on and I certainly will within the next couple of days. From a whirlwind wedding reception and the 3-tiered cake I made for my cousin and her husband, to a trip to Virginia for the Relay for Life and a wonderful, but too short visit to see C, F, A and H and Mom and Dad T, to… to… LOL

Anyways, I missed Thursday 13’s yesterday, an activity I’ve come to love. I had started one for last week and never finished, so let’s make it a Friday Fourteen instead. How about 14 quotes?

1. There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance. ~Socrates~

2. Friendship marks a life even more deeply than love. Love risks degenerating
into obsession, friendship is never anything but sharing.” ~Elie Wiesel~

3. To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the
affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure
the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in
others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden
patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson~

4. Deception is a cruel act... It often has many players on different stages that
corrode the soul. ~Donna A. Favors-

5. Truth has no fear; Untruth shivers at every shadow. ~Sri Sathya Sai Baba~

6. I should be committed to an institution immediately for even thinking I could
get away with that…  ~Johnny Depp~

7. O! beware, my lord, of jealousy; It is the green-eyed monster which doth mock
the meat it feeds on. ~William Shakespeare~

8. Jealousy is a tiger that tears not only its prey but also its own raging heart.
~Unknown~

9. Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings when the dawn is still dark.
~Rabindranath Tagore~

10. Stanley didn't shy away from true humanity or from the ugliness that all
people are capable of. ~Matthew Modine~

11. Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to
infuse them with shades of deeper meaning. ~Maya Angelou~

12. In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in a clearer light, and
what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life
is a long and arduous quest after Truth. ~Mahatma Ghandi~

13. O Baba, speak only that which will bring you honor. They alone are good, who
are judged good at the Lord's Door. Those with bad karma can only sit and
weep. ~Sri Guru Granth Sahib~

14. I don't believe the accident of birth makes people sisters or brothers. It
makes them siblings. Gives them mutuality of parentage. Sisterhood and
brotherhood is a condition people have to work at. ~Maya Angelou~

I may have to try a few more of these soon. Found some really interesting subjects out there in quote land. LOL Have a good weekend everyone and break a couple of speed limits.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://kelzy43.blogspot.com/2007/07/im-late-im-late.html' title='I'm Late! Teah was a white, flame point Siamese with a personality that surely the mold had to be broken, after he was made. From day one in our home, he latched onto B like a drowning person grabs a life line. Teah was funny, smart, neurotic, affectionate, kingly, playful and attentive. He knew when it was 10:00 p.m. and time for bed before anyone said anything and if B wasn't ready at the right time, Teah would let him know it. When B went away to college, Teah waited for him every minute to come home. He eventually graciously suffered the attention of other family members and allowed us stingily into his inner circle. We buried him last night in one of my new gardens. B insisted on doing all the work himself and it was difficult to tell where the sweat stopped and where the tears began. Teah will rest comfortably right under his two favorite windows, the one from B's old bedroom and the one from our den, surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers and protected from elements and critters. Tears were shed, prayers were said and memories were shared. Teah was never just a pet, he was a full fledged member of our family. He will be sorely missed. My son is grieving and I don't know how to make it better other than to tell him that he has to take one day at a time, so perhaps you can join me and say a little prayer for the mending of his broken heart. Good bye Teah and rest well. We'll miss you.

On a lighter note, the 60 mile Independence Run was a blast on saturday. I had forgotten after 24 years, just how free you can feel while on a motorcycle. ING (the organizers) sure know how to put on a well run affair. Over 1,000 bikes of every size, shape and brand (but very heavily loaded with Harley's :) ), were in the run and like a swarm of locusts we took over I-95 south and Rt. 322 in PA and all the way down route 52 in DE into downtown Wilmington and then on to the Riverfront. We had a police escort that worked like a well oiled machine. I don't know how many there were in total, but they were with us every step of the way. At one point we were doing 110 at a cop's direction, to close the gap between the front and middle of the pack! We probably ticked a lot of people off (some of the ramps on 95 and some of the side streets through PA and DE were WAY backed up), but dang...it was an incredible sight! Only motorcycles for miles and miles! People were out along the route hooting, hollering and cheering. Over $175,000 was given to the two charities saturday night, 4 brand new Harley's were given away (3 were won by women!) and then we were all entertained by a cool jump by Robbie Knieval and then it was time for the Steve Miller band. Let me tell you, they can still rock! Take the Money and Run had everyone on their feet, along with several other songs. I don't have my pics ready yet, but here's a couple from one of our gang...

Part of our "Motley Crew"
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/Rm2YtwgGUHI/AAAAAAAAACU/JU4ksl29780/s400/biker1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5074880266997485682" />

Robbie takes some air

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/Rm2YuAgGUII/AAAAAAAAACc/en_YqzF1sR8/s400/robbieair.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5074880271292452994" />

Gonna run for now. It's June already. Can you believe it? Only 3 weeks and one day till I travel to CJ's house for a visit and to do the Relay for Life with Carolynn's Crew. I'm totally excited! I can't wait to see her, F and the girls.

I've been busy, but don't ask me with what. LOL Seems like there's something every day. I planted my third new garden on Memorial Day (will have to get pics). It's in the back corner of the back yard and came out really nice, if I do say so myself. My next plan is to do the corner in the front corner of the back yard and then join them down the side. Hopefully will get this done within the next month or so. Here are a few pictures of the first two gardens...

This is the "pink" garden on the right side facing the house:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RmcO2wgGUDI/AAAAAAAAAB0/xo-8aEXPV7A/s400/pinkgarden1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5073039839151411250" />

And these are parts of the bigger garden on the left side facing the house:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RmcPWAgGUEI/AAAAAAAAAB8/bVUZo1Rih8k/s400/ng23.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5073040376022323266" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RmcP6AgGUFI/AAAAAAAAACE/oM3wYlq6his/s400/ng22.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5073040994497613906" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RmcP7wgGUGI/AAAAAAAAACM/TkZMVorqui0/s400/ng21.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5073041024562384994" />

Mom and Dad went to Vegas for their 49th Anniversary and had a wonderful time. I got them a trip to Hoover Dam as their anniversary present and they seemed to really enjoy that. They also took in the Producers one evening and raved about the show. What really impressed them was The Body exhibit which I missed while it was in Philly. My dad has gone on and on about it and can't believe they use real bodies in the exhibits. I think it would be way cool to see. I hope they'll be ready to go back next year, as I plan to take them there for their 50th Anniversary next May. They don't want a party, so I figure I'll ask all the aunts to meet us there and we'll have a small party that'll last a few days. ;) Sounds like a plan, don't you think?

I'm going on a 60 mile Independence Ride followed by a Steve Miller concert this saturday. It's a Harley event sponsored by ING Direct and it's for a couple of charities. I'll be riding with my Uncle on his Harley (my Aunt has her own) and there will be around 14 people in our group. From what I understand, there are a few hundred Harley enthusiasts registered for the event. Can you say...VROOM!!! VROOM!!! I'm totally psyched! :)

I'd better run since I'm supposed to be working and not blogging. Will try to make a better effort to be more consistent. ;) Have a good week y'all and get out there and break a speed limit or two.

I'm Not a Very Good Blogger

No, no, it really seems that I'm not. Lordy, the last two weeks have just been hectic as hell and without a minutes peace. Between doctors for the arm and hand problems that started with my marathon labor weekend a couple weeks ago, doing chores at my house and at my cousin's house and all the running around and oh, let's not forget the 2 weeks from hell at work...whew!!!

Finally finished house sitting for my cousin on Friday. They are home safe and sound from Italy with lots to tell about their trip and lots to catch up on here. Hopefully will be able to see them this weekend. I've seen some pictures and wow, it was so beautiful along the Amalfi Coast and talk about a beaming bride! She was truly beautiful.

Had an okay 48th birthday on Friday as well. I received a gift from CJ that not only surprised me, it touched me to the bottom of my soul. Her gift started a cathartic crying session and by the time I went to bed I felt better. I wasn't upset about my birthday or anything, 48 is truly no big deal. I was upset about my son and not seeing him and honestly, just didn't feel good (still have the mess I picked up while on my cruise). I've been to the doctor's now and that's being taken care of though, hopefully. Then went to see CV & H on saturday and had a lovely time visiting them and seeing their new house (which is gorgeous!). CV & H are always good for my spirits and I value their friendship and love so very much.

Sunday was spent planting my second new flower bed and so far I'm thrilled with how everything is going. I'm just loving working in the dirt! How can I make it 48 years and never know that I just love getting dirty, playing in the mud and making things grow? I've planted annuals in small beds every year for years, but that was just kinda meh... Now I want to be best buddies with the gardening columnist in our local paper!! LOL My two totally new gardens and my new annual beds came out great I think. Will take pics and show off soon. Now plotting and planning a new area for the back yard. :) I see it in my head, now just to get dirty and make it real.

Better run. Hope to get back here sooner, rather than later!

So...What did you do over the weekend?

"So you feel like you're in over your head? Good! Believe it or not, this is how you'll learn to swim -- longer, faster and farther than you've ever done before -- metaphorically speaking, that is. Dive in."

The above is my horrorscope for the day. It couldn't have been worded better, as that is exactly how I feel. LOL Two words for what I did over the weekend - manual labor. I learned how to handle a power washer and had a ball, learned how to use a giant roto tiller, which I did well at according to my Pop (after he said that I would be unable to do it) and tilled two garden plots out back, I dug a ton of dirt out of one flower bed out front and put it into the other flower bed out front, dug out 2 50+ year old azalea bushes (stubborn suckers with roots 100 ft. long, ok I exaggerate a little, lol) and cut grass at my cousin's house (where I'm house sitting). Now I have to paint the bottom of the house, landscape the new flower beds, plant around the trees out front, etc., etc. and this all starts tonight - I was allowed the night off last night. ;) My mother should've been the captain of the Mutiny. ;) All she needs is a cat'o nine tails. At this point, I'm only hoping my right arm will hold out. Between my carpal tunnel and whatever else is going on, the last 2 nights have been uncomfortable. But I do it all and do it gladly, because it's for my folks.

So, what did you do over the weekend?

DOING A HAPPY DANCE!!!!

After months of research and saving my pennies. And after getting some sound advice from someone I trust implicitly - I went out at lunch and came back to work with...A NEW CAR!!!! Yeah, baby!!!! I've been driving my Isuzu Rodeo since 05/97. I bought it when I was carrying big boys and football equipment around all the time. Now, it's basically just me and I don't need that big a car any more and I'M TIRED OF PAYING $45.00 FOR A TANK OF GAS!!! LOL Anyways, I am now the proud owner of a 2007 Honda Civic coupe and I love it! Now I just have to figure out all the bells and whistles. uuggghhhh That's the worst part about a vehicle you're unfamiliar with, figuring out where everything is and getting it comfortable. Bet you can figure out what I'll be doing this weekend, huh? You got it! Breaking a few speed limits!! LOL!!!!

Oh my gosh - I totally forgot something. Last weekend was the suprise party I was working on. It was a surprise, Italian themed, bridal shower for my cousin Tressa who is in Italy right now and will be getting married tomorrow! :) She and her HTB are totally made for each other and I cannot begin to say how happy I am for them. Just wish I was in Italy with them. Anyway - Tressa was totally surprised by about 75 people. There was so much food and so much laughter. And grief! you should've seen the pile of loot Tressa (and Steve) had to haul home. Unbelievable. One of the other projects that I had for the shower was to make a cake. I'm attaching a pic and hope you'll be able to see it. It was a hit! I'm quite proud of myself too. When faced with making a spaghetti and meatball cake, one has to use some real creativity. LOL My next "project" will be making the cake for their reception in June. boy, oh boy, oh boy.... ;)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RjupJB_nuwI/AAAAAAAAABs/-S5gxksPjLU/s400/cake2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060824578900081410" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RjupEh_nuvI/AAAAAAAAABk/n67uHe0WJ8M/s400/cake1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060824501590670066" />

Have a great weekend!!

A Little More About Vacation and Some Pics!

Our cruise was aboard Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas. Oh dear Lord, it was huge!! It had everything from a rock climbing wall, to mini golf, to an ice skating rink. The shows were fabulous - Broadway quality! The food was excellent everywhere we ate. The shopping promenade was excellent and beautiful. The casino - all art deco and gorgeous. There were several clubs - something for everyone. Assorted pools and even cantilevered hot tubs on each side of the ship. This is the Freedom (taken from Margaritaville in Jamaica).
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RjntTx_numI/AAAAAAAAAAc/merbzIb39ao/s400/cruise10.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060336580420942434" />

Our first port was Cozumel, but we had to hop an early ferry to Playa Del Carmen to catch our tour bus to Tulum and Xel-Ha'. The ruins were beautiful, but the recent hurricanes had done quite a bit of damage and you aren't allowed to actually approach the buildings any longer. Iguanas were everywhere and it became a game to snap pics of as many as we could. Xel-Ha' - I've never been to a place as exquisitely beautiful. The water was so clear you could see to the bottom. If only we'd been better prepared. We've already decided that we would love to go back there.

From behind the Castillo in Tulum
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RjntnR_nunI/AAAAAAAAAAk/WAkqwvHm6aA/s400/cruise4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060336915428391538" />

One of the many iguanas - he even smiled purty...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/Rjntxh_nuoI/AAAAAAAAAAs/jWJ_V70-auI/s400/cruise9.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060337091522050690" />

Feeding the fishies in Xel-Ha'
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/Rjnt6x_nupI/AAAAAAAAAA0/FsCHENu68KE/s400/cruise2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060337250435840658" />

Next stop was Grand Cayman where we shopped till we dropped. Although I never did make it to Hell, we still had a grand time!

I even made a new friend during our shopping excursion!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RjnuEh_nuqI/AAAAAAAAAA8/2ZosquDKVa8/s400/cruise5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060337417939565218" />

On to Jamaica we went to start our day very early. I had my eyes closed a good deal on the ride to the plantation for our ATV ride. Dang, but they drive scary there.

The Great River
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RjnuNB_nurI/AAAAAAAAABE/MhM6vNjvcPY/s400/cruise6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060337563968453298" />

A pit stop along the Great River
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RjnuXR_nusI/AAAAAAAAABM/aqDavBMlbps/s400/cruise7.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060337740062112450" />

Our final port o' call was Labadee, Haiti. Talk about lovely. It was simply gorgeous. We spend a great deal of time exploring and snorkeling in the lovely waters. Dragon's Rock was a real trip! The way the ocean comes in makes the Dragon "breathe". It sounded so real, it was a bit freaky. We also dickered in the craft market and saw a fantastic show with Haitian music and dancers.

Off of one of the beaches on Labadee
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/Rjnuhh_nutI/AAAAAAAAABU/bliwQsCEYMU/s400/curise8.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060337916155771602" />

Me and DS near the Dragon's Rock
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s3CUXpHY6NQ/RjnurB_nuuI/AAAAAAAAABc/-bDxipE0R6s/s400/cruise3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5060338079364528866" />

We had wonderful weather the entire week and totally had the time of our lives. I'm ready to cruise again baby!!

Okay then - I've broken several speed limits over the past couple of weeks, why don't you get out there and break a few too! I went with my son (DIL had nursing school finals and was unable to go) and we had a fantabulous time. I did something I had never done before, ate new foods, tasted new drinks, soaked up the son and RELAXED!!! I’m still chillin’ mon as a matter of fact. So back to business and the TT’s and so, here goes…

Thirteen Things I Did on Vacation

1.For my very first time ever I rode a 4 wheel ATV! This was on a 3,000 acre orange
plantation in Jamaica! I was ready to go again as soon as we were done! LOL

2.Ate jerk chicken and conch soup.

3.Drank Dom Perignon champagne for the first time, yummmmm.

4.I treated myself to 3 jewelry items in Grand Cayman. The prices were too good
to pass up. I also finished my Mother's Day shopping while there. Can't wait to
surprise my mother. ;)

5.Explored the ruins of Tulum’ and the beauty of Xel-Ha’ along the Mayan Riviera in
Mexico. I want to go back to Xel-Ha’ again!

6.Swam and snorkeled in the beautiful, warm waters off of Labadee, Haiti.

7.Danced till 2:00 a.m.

8.Lost money in the casino – oh well….

9.Met and talked with lots of new people.

10.For the first time I saw DS perform karaoke and have the video to prove it! LOL
He’s pretty darn good too!

11.Got sunburned. What good is a Caribbean cruise if you don’t come home with a
tan? LOL

12.Wore a bathing suit in public for the first time in a long time and
wasn’t freaking out about it.

13.Spent time with, talked with and reconnected with my DS. This was the very best part of our whole journey.

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. A spouse, significant other, parent, child, sibling, friend? Can you think of thirteen things that you treasure about them? I am blessed to have several people in my life that fit the category, but today’s thirteen is about one of them. My sister-friend, CJ, just went through a couple of weeks that were physically and emotionally demanding. So today, my thirteen is for her. Thirteen things I treasure about my sister-friend:

Thirteen Things I Treasure About CJ

1. Her unshakeable faith;
2. The way she loves her family;
3. Her intelligence;
4. Her strength;
5. Her vulnerability;
6. Her belief in June Cleaver’s world;
7. Her funkiness;
8. Her courage;
9. Her never give up attitude;
10. Her smile;
11. Her humor;
12. Her quirks;
13. She accepts me for who I am.

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Chukka, Chukka, Chukka, Boom!

Okay, well maybe not the chukka, chukka, chukka part, but today started off with plenty of big booms. Thunder, lightening and pouring rain! You know those Bare Minerals I told you about, well...they're darn dangerous. When Mother Nature decides to throw the hammer down, they make a perfect mess! LOL My bathroom sink and floor were covered with the stuff when at one point a loud boom sounded, the lights went off and I jumped in the air. LOL Now I love a good thunder and lightening storm - they fascinate me to no end. But DANG!!! Ole Mother Nature got me good this morning. LOL

Just got off the phone with DS. He had to pay an extra $75 to make sure he gets his passport on time. It was processed at the post office the last week of January and nothing was done with it by wherever else it goes until March 9! It's been showing "in process" since then. He was assured it would be mailed priority mail on friday, but he still has to call monday to double check. And joy, joy!! We have a 6:00 a.m. flight out of Philly on 4/15. That means getting to the airport by 4:00 a.m. That means getting up at 2:30 a.m. Holy cow.... I don't think Mama will be doing a whole lot the first evening of the cruise. LOL The excellent thing he found out, is that his company is paying all of the gratuities for the cruise, transportation, etc. Cool, huh? That's a big, big savings for us.

Better run as there is plenty of work to do and I'm trying to stay ahead of the game. Get out there and break a speed limit or two today.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://kelzy43.blogspot.com/2007/04/boom-chukka-chukka-chukka-boom.html' title='Boom! Thankfully, work has calmed down a bit and unless my boss does his normal and swamps me on the last day, I just may have things under control in one area of my life.

I finally finished the first project for the surprise party. Lordy, I didn't think I'd ever see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have everything for the second project which I need to have done before I leave and need to pick up things for the third project which I don't have to worry about till I get back. This weekend is filled with donating red blood cells on Friday, yard projects and seeing my cousin baptised into the Catholic faith on Saturday and Easter brunch at my cousin's house with the family. Next week is work, a girls night out next Friday and having a spa day with my DIL on saturday (part of her birthday present). The next several days there is just simply something to be done every day. I will be more than ready for a vacation. LOL

I talked CV this morning. She's a busy, busy lady. I swear I don't know how she works the hours she does sometimes. The new house is coming along well she says and things are falling into place. I can't wait to see it and hope it won't be too long. I've missed her.

Yesterday was a day of mixed emotions for me. CJ had a bit of a scare and it may have scared me more than her. I have never hated being so far away as I did for several hours yesterday. She is always so cool and methodical about things. I guess she has to be that way with all she's been through the last several years. My emotions grab me and try to take over. I wish I could be more like her sometimes. I do know though, that with prayers and the Good Lord watching over her, all will remain well.

My 2nd Thursday Thirteen!!

Reading is not just a hobby of mine, it's a passion. I read every day, even if it's only a page or two. Reading a book can transport you to different worlds and different times. You can imagine that you are anyone by just the turn of an author's words. You can laugh, cry, be angry or sad just by the situation the author has chosen and the words they selected. Reading is also healthy for you as it keeps your mind active and entertained. Boredom is never close by if there is a book within reach. So today's entry is about thirteen of my favorite reads. Okay, I cheated on two of them, but I couldn't pick only one book by the authors. ;)

Thirteen Books I love

1. What brings this up? My obsession with Pink Lady apples. Their crunchy, sweet/tart flavor just absolutely makes my mouth happy! :) I only discovered them last year and have been obsessed with them since then. A little more pricey than your regular Delicious, but well worth it. If you run across them, give 'em a try and let me know what you think.

Another nice day in store for us today, but not up in the 80's like it got yesterday. My perfect weather would be 70's during the day and in the 50's at night so you would never need air conditioning or heating.

Three weeks from today I will be in Jamaica riding 4-wheel ATV's across a plantation with my son, after a day of visiting the ruins in Tulum in Cozumel. I've never ridden one of these things before, so I'm sure it will be quite interesting. Watch out baby! I bet I'll be breaking a speed limit or two. LOL

My best girl is sick with strep again. She's had an awfully rough winter. Now to hope her little sister and folks don't get it. Her mommy's thinking that maybe it might be time for her tonsils to come out. I remember when DS was about the same age he went through a similar thing. The doc said "One more time and the tonsils come out!" Well, he never did get strep again. Guess the doctor scared it out of him. LOL

Not much to report on today and a ton of work to get done, so will close for now. Have yourself a great day and break a speed limit or two.

Uggghhhhh!!!!

So, the last few days all I've been doing is working on the surprise party project. I'm sleeping and dreaming the surprise party project. I have to admit, things are turning out really well though and it's worth the blisters on my thumb from cutting edges on the different papers, etc. I hate being at work when there is so much else I need to be doing! LOL I like doing creative things and if I could find a job where I could something like that and get paid well, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

DS and DIL are coming for dinner Thursday night and I'm excited. With his busy schedule it's been almost a month since I've laid my eyes on him. He had to go to Ohio on business for a week and since he's been back one or another of his people have been out sick or on vacation. Of course his managerial responsibilties call for him to provide coverage for those absent employees. We talk on the phone and email, but it's just not the same. I am so looking forward to having him to myself for a week while we're on the cruise.

Speaking of the cruise, I think I'm all ready and have everything I need. We've picked and signed up for our excursions in Cozumel and Jamaica. Right now we're planning to just hang out in Grand Cayman. A trip to "Hell" of course is a must, just to grab a couple of postcards. LOL We'll snorkel, etc. when we hit Labadee. Holy cow! Three weeks from today I'll be in Cozumel. WOO HOO!

I've started doing some fund raising for the Relay for Life and the 3-day. I sent C two checks to get the ball rolling on RFL and sent in a nice size check to the 3-day as well on Friday. I'll get my fundraising letters out as soon as I'm done with the surprise party project. Just not enough time in the day sometimes.

Better get moving. I hope to go for a walk at lunch. Temp is supposed to go up to 75 today! :) If it's nice where you are, get out there and break a speed limit or two. ;)

Thursday Thirteens

Okay Pen - I've been seeing this on your blog and curiosity finally got the best of me. I like her hubby, but I just adore her. She's a REAL woman and puts on no pretenses. My heart goes out to her and her family. She's a strong, well educated, fighter and has a wonderful support system around her. Those are things that all of us need, yes? Good luck Liz - I'll be pulling for you!

No matter what you're politics, this is an interesting poll. If you could vote for president today, who would you vote for? http://www.selectsmart.com/plus/select.php?url=08frontrunners. Condoleezza Rice and Newt Gingrich - not even if Hell froze over and pigs sprouted wings! Several I've never heard of. And I'd move Hillary up to #5, Pataki up to #6 and good ole Delaware Joe up to #7. Now if Al would just throw his hat in the damn ring.... What's he waiting for? Everyone knows he's going to run and if he doesn't, he's just plain foolish. Anyways, answer the questions and see which candidate(s) thinks like you do. ;)

It's 56 degrees here today and the sun is a shinin'. I've got my office window open with a fresh breeze coming in. Lovely!!

Had a surprise phone call yesterday that gave me a smile. An old friend that is adjusting to a new life, called to say hello. I'm glad that friend is doing well and I hope we can keep in touch.

On to day three of trying to get invitations designed. My task is proving more difficult than I thought it would. I have hit a creative block I think! LOL Time is running out quickly and we've got to get the design finalized and everything printed out ASAP! I did however hit upon a great idea for a traditional favor that fits right in with our theme and they'll be a snap to do. I don't want to give any big details just in case a certain little birdie finds me out here. That birdie is quite clever at things like that.

Better hit the road. Right now it is 32 degrees, our high today is supposed to be 46 degrees and I'm just not convinced Spring is really here. LOL By the end of the week though, "they" are saying we should be in the 70's! :)

Had a wonderful weekend with Sequoia, but there's never enough time with her. I swear she is the cutest, smartest two year old that there ever was. Of course I do realize that I'm just a tad prejudiced where she is concerned. The St. Patty's day parade was cancelled due to the several inches of ice that we got on Friday. Lordy, I've never seen anything like that mess. Took me 3 hours just to dig out the cars on Saturday morning.

Now I'm involved in a project for a surprise party. Invitations are my assignment and I've been busily trying to get them designed. It's one thing when you're in charge, but when you have to get other people's approval and you're in a time crunch, it can be maddening. Sometimes I wonder how I get myself into these things. Oh yeah, I can't stop from saying "I'll help!" and apparently the word "no" is misappropriately used in my vocabulary. ;) Oh, and I'll get to make the cake beginning as soon as I get home from my cruise. Wheeeeee!!! It if turns out the way I want, it may be the coolest cake I'll ever make. LOL Picture a bowl of pasta done in cake and icing. Hmmmm......??????

Better run. Work this week has been a bear so far. With all the ice on Friday and Saturday we're being overrun with new clients! Yay for us! LOL

Get out there, enjoy Spring and break a speed limit or two.

Now I Know How Mary Poppins Felt!

Why is that you say? Well, because I literally was blown off my front porch today while holding an umbrella and I think I actually left the ground! LOL High winds, rain, cold right now and later snow, sleet and freezing rain are predicted for today. March is certainly roaring today. Too bad the little lamb we saw too briefly, went inside to play.

This is Sequoia weekend! Sequoia is my little cousin, just a little over two years old and she owns a part of my heart like no other does. Her personality could melt an ice berg, I tell ya. I worship the ground she walks on and live for the weekends she visits her Mom-Mom (my aunt). I simply cannot wait to see her tonight. Tomorrow, weather permitting, is the St. Patrick's Day parade and the plan is to take her. I think she'll have a ball with the music, clowns and all the other hullabaloo.

And in other exciting news... C officially announced the plans for Carolynn's Crew Year Six on her blog today (http://www.pinkribbonmiracle.com )! I am so psyched about this year. She's right too, after so many years we are bringing a breast cancer event home. Many know I think of her home as my second home and it all just feel so right. I can't wait for June!

Well, I guess I'd better get some work done. Happy St. Pat's everyone and maybe this is a weekend you shouldn't break any real speed limits - especially if you've been celebrating. ;)

Yes, I'm still here! ;)

My, what a bad girl I've been. Neglecting my little corner of the world. Sorry, will try not to let it happen again. LOL

What's been going on... Hmmmm..... Well, I spent 10 days house sitting a haunted house. Wouldn't you know I didn't run into even one ghostie! Darn it! However, I did find coins that mysteriously appeared on the front porch every day while I was there. Everything from quarters to pennies. I've also been sick for the last couple of weeks. Flu it seems. After 14 days I'm still only at about 80%. I don't feel bad per se, but I've felt better. LOL I shouldn't complain I guess. Everyone at my office has been sick. We don't know if it's from all the crap getting kicked up by the workmen (we're remodeling), or if we're just an unsanitary lot and keep passing germs to each other. And wouldn't you know, the last couple of days we've had glorious weather, just prime for being outside and walking. I may give it a shot tonight anyway, just to see how far I can make it. I did take advantage of the peace and quiet while at my aunt's. It was a good break for me, plus I didn't have to be around anyone while I was so miserable. When I'm sick, I just want to be left alone! My dad is trying to kick pneumonia and has been to the doctor's twice now. He worries me. So far Mom has been the healthy one.

I picked up new glasses last night after having been made to wait 2-1/2 weeks! gggrrrrrrrr I'm usually happy with LensCrafters' work, but this time... I tried one pair without the bifocal prescription in it (okay, I can be vain) and that was a no go. So took them back, bit the bullet and ordered lenses with the no line bifocals in them. They said it would take about a week. Well, when 2 weeks came and went I called to find out what was going on. They couldn't find my order! They called all over and nothing. Zip, nada, zilch. So new lenses were ordered and well, I finally got my glasses last night. I love the glasses, but I'm not a happy camper at all with the service. I left a message for the manager to call me. You'd think after spending $500 for two pairs of glasses (I also got new sun glasses since I've had the same ones for 7 years, which I do adore and had no problems getting) you'd get good service.

Hmmm.... what else? Oh! I took my mother out for a while on Saturday and we ended up at the Ulta store. I still cannot believe I did what I did. Me, the girl who has never owned any make-up fancier than an occasional Clinique lipstick or eyeshadow, plopped almost $200 on Bare Escentuals make up. I've been seeing it hawked on QVC for years and heard praises about it from many people and decided to treat myself for a change. Oh my gosh! I love it! I got the neato coolo starter kit, some eye shadows, a blush, skin revver upper, eye revver upper and a plumping lip gloss. My complexion actually looks good and it's very natural looking (not makeupy at all!) and I love what the plumping gloss is doing for my lips. Now I want to buy more! Heaven help me!

Better run for now. Get out there an break the speed limit!

Our Parent's Keepers - Deep Thoughts

My dear, dear friend, CV, lost her father last week after a long illness. I am at a loss as to how to comfort her or make her feel better. I know she needs some space right now and time to wrap her head around things. I also want her to know that I'm here when she's ready.

But this recent death of course turned my thoughts to my own parents. The last few years have brought many health issues to the forefront, mostly heart related. My mother struggled through more than a year, out of a real fear and stubbornness and finally had a pace maker put in 2 years ago. Though that didn't really "cure" her, she is in a much, much better place health wise. Last year, my father had a heart attack and had 2 stents placed in his heart. He now has been diagnosed with emphysema and has been going through a series of tests. "They" are talking about a lung reduction if the tests determine he is a candidate. Believe me, that is one, majorily scary operation. The last few years have also found me taking over more and more house related chores (inside and out), taking them to doctors appointments and making family related decisions. I am slowly becoming a parent to my parents. I think it's a phenomenon that is occurring more and more, but I still wonder... how'd I get here? Now, I don't mind this role at all. I finally feel like I'm paying my parents back for taking care of me for so many years. It's scary though. Thoughts of their mortality and my own, visit me more often than I'd like. Perhaps it's all normal. Just part of the circle of life?

Okay - enough deep thoughts for today. On a bright note we have a crew of extremely attractive men working in our building. They are all quite friendly as well. I've put on my flirting cap and trying to get those skills in shape for the cruise. LOL!!! I find that I haven't quite forgotten all the little tricks I picked up in my late teens and early 20's. Holy cow! Look at me!! I'm breaking my own speed limit today!! LOL You get out there and break it too.

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO....

So, did you watch last night? I tried, I really did, but it was just too long and too boring for me. I liked Ellen though and thought she did a good job for her first time. Loved Al Gore and Leo DiCaprio's schtick. I sincerely do wish Al would consider running for President again.

All in all, I was more interested in the arrivals and seeing what everyone was wearing anyway. LOL Okay, who are your top 5 lookers of the evening? Mine are:

1. Gwen Paltrow. Score!! What a gorgeous, not your run of the mill, dress! Having kids made her have feminine curves and that dress showed them off very well! Brava Gwen!

2. Reese Witherspoon. Wow! Simply stunning. Breaking up with Ryan is apparently agreeing with her. She is just an absolutely beautiful young woman.

3. Helen Mirren. She was simply dripping in royalty vibes. Just loved her dress and she herself was lovely. Gives us women of a certain age hope that we too can look that good in another 15 or 20 years. :)

4. Jennifer Lopez. I loved her dress! I loved her hair! Too bad it looked like she was walking the red carpet with a corpse.

5. Rachel Weiss. Ditch the horrid oversize necklace and you have a simply elegant and good old fashioned Hollywood stunner. She was the epitome of old Hollywood glamour in my book.

Now, can anyone tell me what Meryl Streep was thinking? She might have been wearing Prada, but it was obviously something the design house together in the dark and she never saw till just before show time. And Nicole Kidman? She is usually perfection, but that way too bright red and the bow that was bigger than she was, well....not my cup of tea. And Kirsten Dunst - um, the designer apparently couldn't decide if she was going to school or a bird farm. The school girl neckline, the feathers! What a mishmash. And that had to have been her brother she was with? She did lovingly adjust his tie as they exited their limo. ;) And Cameron Diaz - way too many angles on that dress and the material didn't seem to work at all. Seems as if beautiful women can make fashion mistakes (like listening to their stylists telling them they look gorgeous even when their dress is hideous. Kind of reminds me of the story of the Emperor and his new clothes.)

The weekend was filled with fashion hopes, do's and don'ts. When you are both a woman of a "certain age" and a "certain size" (meaning anything over a 12), finding clothes can be are real tricky thing. As you know, I'm going on a cruise in April. There are two formal nights. Now, I've done well finding clothes for day time and the non-formal evenings, but dang! I'm not 102 years old, I'm not HUGE and I don't want to weigh 300 lbs from beading alone! Why do "they" think that if you're over size 12, you must be old and love heavy beading? I want young and sessy dammit!! Well, lo and behold Macy's came to my rescue again. They were my savior when DS got married as well. I finally found a gorgeous vintage looking chocolate brown cocktail dress. Tea length, Floaty hem, small cream flowers and gold thread leaves along the handkerchief type bottom. The back has a low draped cowl effect and hopefully I'll look great walking away. ;) That is for one night. The other night I'll wear a slightly sheer cap sleeved blouse done in corals, pinks and blacks with a pair of those evening pant/skirt looking thingies. And yes of course, I bought new shoes for both outfits. ;)

DS and DIL came by saturday night for a while. Dad's bday was Friday and they came with a beautiful card and a Home Depot card, which my dad thinks is the next best thing to sliced bread. DS and I also discussed excursions for our cruise, much to the dismay of DIL. In Cozumel we're going to to visit the Tulum ruins. Grand Cayman we're playing by ear for now. In Jamaica we're going to ride 4 wheel ATV's around a 100 acre citrus plantation and finish that day with jerk chicken and Red Stripe beer. We really wanted to do the river tubing excursion, but DIL (who is studying to be a nurse) nixed that idea as she's convinced we'd pick up some nasty river worm or something. EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWW!!!!

Sunday was a quiet day. Did chores like laundry, cleaning my bedroom and shoveling the snow and ice that decided to show up. Thank goodness it wasn't anything like the Valentine's Day ice storm we had. That was a nasty one and one I'd like not to have to go through again any time soon.

So, are blog entries supposed to be short? If so, I've blown it this time. LOL With that, I'll close. Remember, get out there and break the speed limit!!

Do You Really Care...

about Anna Nicole Smith's burial place, or Britney's latest breakdown and attack on the paparazzi or if Nicole Richie has gained weight or if George Clooney is gay? Puhleeeeese! Enough already. Isn't there any real news out there any more? Okay - I'm kinda looking forward to the Academy Awards on Sunday. I will admit that I love to see what everyone is wearing and of course make snide, catty and generally unladylike comments about anyone that misses the mark. Yeah, like I'm a fashion icon myself. LOL

Now what I do care about is becoming an M & M. Have you got your M&M on yet? This site http://www.becomeanmm.com/ can provide hours of entertainment for any adult that still likes to play! Also I care about this http://action.one.org/blog/comments.jsp?blog_entry_KEY=195&t=&gclid=CMi9qLaDxYoCFRBoNAodbiijlQ which is Bono's campaign to stomp out rampaging AIDS and poverty in Africa. The Gap has some really cool t's and things that are not to spendy and 1/2 the profits go to this campaign. I picked up my cool Red t's at the Gap on Sunday. Softest t-shirt in my wardrobe and it's helping someone too. I also care about breast cancer. My best friend is a 5 year survivor and one hell of a survivor she is too. She does more than her part to raise funds and awareness and I try to be there with her. This year I'm crewing the Komen 3-day Walk in Philly http://www.the3day.org/site/pp.asp?c=pmL6JnO8KzE&b=2182501. For the past 5 years we have walked and walked and walked. This year I'm crewing, instead of walking - at least for the 3-day. I'm sure I'll be doing some walking somewhere else though! If you are a warrior or a survivor, if you are a friend or a family member of someone who has or had breast cancer, get out there and walk. Komen and Avon each have excellent events in many cities around the country. And if I can do it, anyone can.

I think that's it for this time. Get out there and break the speed limit!

Life in the Right Hand Lane

My first post. A momentous occasion, or not? Since I'm an adult, I wanted an adult place to hang out. MySpace is cool, however not for me. I'm not quite sure that it's for anyone over 40. ;) Some of the pages for us Right Hand Lane people just look like desperate attempts to be 20 something again. The hell with being 20 something again, the 40's is where it's at! I'm finally a grown up. I'm in a place where I pretty much like myself, I like my job, I have great friends and a family that I not too awfully strange or demanding. My kid is grown, housebroken, married, successful and reasonably happy. Now it's Mama's time to let loose. It's Mama's time to break the speed limit! :)

The past couple of weeks have been interesting. I sent off my swabs to join the National Marrow Donor Program. I signed up to crew the Komen Philly 3-day Walk in October. I found out that I'm going on a Caribbean cruise in April, with my DS no less (DIL can't go due to her nursing clinical finals which totally sucks) and which I'm totally psyched about (about going that is, not about my DIL not being able to go). And yes, I did immediately start yet another diet. Soooo, things are falling into place it seems. Which of course scares the bejebus out of me, because whenever things fall into place, something surely happens to scatter all the neatly laid pieces. As a friend said to me recently...Karma can sometimes kick you in the ass!!

I guess this is a start.
